Netrek is a multi-player game set in space. The main theme for this game is Star Trek and, as such, the expected factions are available. The game is played in 2D and it has elements of an action and a strategy game.
As soon as you launch Netrek you will have several servers which you can connect to. Once you log in to a server you can choose your faction and start playing the game. The main interface seems to be text-oriented. You mainly control a spaceship, and although the controls are a bit weird, it takes just a bit of time to get used to them. The objective of the game is basically to take control of the entire galaxy in play. To do this, you must work with your other teammates in order to succeed. But this not only involves space dogfights, you also need to take control of space stations and planets in order to get more resources and better equipment. This, in turn, is not as simple as it sounds.
The main downside of the game is that it looks old and it feels old. Its sounds, graphics and movements are a bit sluggish. This game will certainly appeal the Star Trek fans out there, but still, maybe not all of them have the patience for the game.
